Last week, our stakeholders and partners in Kaduna state under the MALALA funded project ‘Advocating for Girls Education ‘ convened a stakeholders/partners forum and a video screening documentation on girls’ education commemorating the International Day of Education 2022.
The meeting was to foster dialogue and create a platform where education stakeholders and partners share progress on how they are implementing free education policy in the state.
One of our guests Hajia Aisha Mohammed, Deputy Female director of the Ministry of Education, updated us on this progress.
1. The state government is working on constructing perimeter fences for all the schools in the state; this will reduce insecurity faced by students.
2. Toilet facilities will be provided for all schools, and the ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure these schools have an adequate water supply.
3. The second chance education, which is for girls out of school for some reasons as early marriage and teenage pregnancy, will be extended to other parts of the state.
She also quoted from the state’s education policy that free education ensures that all students, particularly the girl child, children in disadvantaged situations, have access to quality education and attain primary education.
We commend the state government’s efforts as we will continue to support this cause.
