Education as a Vaccine, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, is actively engaged in the development of a safeguarding policy for secondary schools in the state. This initiative has been made possible through funding provided by Rise Up.

To commence this important endeavor, we organized a one-day consultation meeting focused on the formulation of the safeguarding policy. The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including a 15-member committee representing the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), teachers, students, Parent-Teacher Association, and Civil Society Organizations.

The primary objective of this project is to establish a supportive policy framework aimed at addressing and mitigating incidents of school-related Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGVB). By developing and implementing a comprehensive safeguarding policy, we aim to create an environment within secondary schools that protects students from all forms of harm and ensures their well-being.

Through collaboration, consultation, and effective policy implementation, we strive to foster a safe and secure educational ecosystem for the students of Nasarawa State. By addressing the issue of SGVB head-on, we hope to empower students, teachers, parents, and the broader community to actively participate in promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and zero tolerance for violence within educational setting.
