EVA Mobile Applications Description

Education as a Vaccine (EVA) Nigeria with funding from FORD Foundation has developed three (3) SRHR themed mobile phone applications and an online community for young people. These Applications were developed under the EMAPS project and offers broad range of information on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Menstrual Health and hygiene as well as referral to Youth Friendly Health Services facilities for adolescents and young people out-of-school across Nigeria. The Sexual Health tools for adolescents and young people include (1) Frisky: Sexual Health Risk Assessment and Informational App; (2) Diva: Menstrual Health and Care app; (3) Link Up: Youth Friendly Service Finder app

  1. Frisky Mobile Application:

The Sexual Health Information and Risk Assessment mobile Application – Frisky is an android application. This application empowers adolescent and young people to seek for accurate information which enables them make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. It also helps young people to assess their sexual health risk and take steps to minimize or eliminate such risks.

Key features:

After downloading and installing, you have the option to log in using your Facebook account or sign up by creating a regular account. You can then access the sections of the App listed below:

Know your bodi – This section provides contents on key sexual reproductive health topics and concerns for adolescents and young people. Topics include: My body, Puberty and Body Changes, HIV/AIDS, STIs, Contraceptives, Sexual and Reproductive Rights etc. It also has very interesting images to aid understanding of the various topics.

Check your bodi – This is the risk assessment section, it helps you assess your sexual health risks. You can take short quiz about your sexual health and activities, response provided will then be used to determine your sexual health risk level. Information on how to reduce or eliminate such risks will be provided.

Yarn with us – You can get further information, counseling or clarification from our trained counselors in this section.  Referrals to health service providers are also provided for those who might need further attention. Several options are available for you to communicate, you can send text messages FREE to the short code 38120 on MTN, Airtel and Glo. Also available is WhatsApp chat and through emails. Just include your Age, Sex and location.

  1. Diva:

The Menstrual Health and Care application – DIVA is specifically designed to help adolescent girls and young women to learn more about their bodies and menstrual health.  It is modeled after a menstrual period tracking app but with the aim to help girls prevent pregnancy and maintain good menstrual hygiene.  This application challenges the negativity and shame around menstruation. It helps girls and young women to love and take control of their bodies.

Key features:

Set up Cycle: After you download and install the Application, you are requested to input some information about your menstrual period which would be used to set up your menstrual cycle.

Period: This is a calendar view that shows all daily information inputted in the dashboard. This section also shows expected days for periods, ovulation and fertile window etc.

Learn: This is an information hub of the Diva App. It has two parts;

  1. Read- Here you have access to accurate information on a load of topics relating to pregnancy, menstruation and menstrual hygiene etc.
  2. Watch – This is where you can watch videos on some of the articles you have read. The short video clips on menstrual hygiene, how to use a sanitary pd, tampons etc are very educative.

  1. Link Up:

The Youth Friendly Health Services Finder – Link Up is an application that links adolescents and young people to Sexual Reproductive Health services facilities and providers across Nigeria.  Its uses a Google mapping functionality to help young people find and access adolescent friendly health care services from hospitals and facilities closest to them. This Application gives young people power to be actively involved in the improvement of the quality of services rendered and received by them, hence they are not just passive users but active contributors to quality of services rendered at these health facilities by using one of the key features, the health facility services rating/review section.

Key features: After downloading the application, you create a profile with your username and password. This gives you access to log in to the application.

Guest Log in: When you log in as guest, you are given access to search for uploaded health facilities either by location or by type of services required.

Facility review: A special feature on the application is the facility rating/review functionality; with this you can rate the facilities as well as quality of services received after visiting any health facilities. Results of ratings can be used to make case for improvement in the health care services provided to adolescents and young people.

Service Providers Login in: Health service providers are also able to register and upload their health centers on the application to give young people access to their facility. Health service providers fill in all necessary information, after verification and approval, the facility will be made visible to users.
